It takes a team to make it happen. Who is in our team?
You already know about The Hilden Trust, Gertrude Banda and Lisa Bennett, so now we’ll introduce the other members of the team who make the Feeding Programme a success. Remember Gertrude and Lisa?
Gertrude has set up a volunteer-run ‘Feeding Committee’ mainly made up of parents, to oversee the programme. Mothers of the students take it in turns to cook the food for the students to eat. This means that the community is very much involved in the programme and in the school.
The committee organise the feeding programme, so that parents know when it is their turn to cook. At the end of each meal the equipment that was bought for this programme is cleaned and stored safely for the next day.
The committee members were chosen by the parents and are well organised, active and enthusiastic. There are nine current committee members:
- Elias Gondwe (Chairman)
- John Mbewe
- Raphael Mwakilasa
- Ester Mbalwa
- Veronica Mbukwa
- Annie Mhone
- Christina Chitete
- Judith Manda
- Nelia Banda
The feeding programme could not have been delivered so successfully without the help of the Feeding Committee. The community has become even more involved in the school, as community members take it in turns to cook the school meals each day.
Next time you will learn about the feeding gardens which supplement the foods that have to be bought in and about jobs created in managing the gardens.
