The new school year started on the 5th September, and teachers at Ganet’s Adventure School are busy preparing for exciting challenges ahead.
The government of Malawi have announced changes to the Standard One curriculum this year, and Ganet’s teachers have been implementing these changes ahead of the new school term.
School director Getrude Banda, along with the Head, Section Head and Standard One Teacher attended two weeks of training on the new curriculum, at St. Maria Goretti School. This will be followed by more training, in December and then in April, with Standard One teachers getting new teaching guides for each term.
Students are in a great position when starting Standard One, as Ganet’s has a nursery section, that government schools do not have. Older learners will have extended teaching hours, which are now to be 7am to 2:30pm. An increase of 1-2 hours on what they were doing before.
This is just the beginning. Each year, over the next few years, the next class up will be getting a new curriculum.
