In training for the hike of a lifetime

City training for Lisa

City training for Lisa

Our new trustee, Lisa Bennett and her husband James, update us on the strenuous training for their  combined fund raising adventure supporting both the school and James’ interest, the Fairtrade Innovation Fund. Find out Lisa and James’ progress below.

Its only three weeks to go until Hike the Line – we can’t quite believe it! We’ve been training hard over the past few weeks which has been pretty tough, particularly as when we get a chance we’re doing it with our 10kg backpacks – it definitely adds a whole new dimension. The weather has been pretty mixed as you can see from the pictures…

As well as physically training we’ve been preparing in other ways.  The final shopping list for our £1 a day food budget is coming together – although not looking particularly appetising! Trying to get enough calories whilst keeping in budget and keeping the weight down as much as possible is a challenge – and for some reason most of the food begins with ‘P’ – pasta, pesto, peanut butter, pitta bread and porridge will be our staples.

We’re also becoming social media savvy and have been blogging and tweeting away – both about our training progress and also about Ganet’s and Fairtrade who we are raising money for. You can find out all about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it at

We’re pretty blown away by people’s generosity and support and so far we’ve managed to raise about £1600, with Gift Aid, which will be split between Ganet’s Adventure School Fund and the Fairtrade Foundation’s Innovation Fund. We’re continuing to collect donations and are keeping our fingers crossed for an even more amazing total.

We’ll update again before we leave, and will of course let everyone know how we get on during and after Hike the Line. 40 miles to do this weekend – and probably some very achy legs on Monday morning!
