Hike the Line 2015

Hike the Line 2015 – Are we really going to do it again? If someone had asked me that question at the end of Hike the Line 2014 the answer would have been a resounding NO WAY!

route 2015

After hiking 85 miles along the South Downs Way carrying a 10kg backpack, whilst fighting off gale force winds and lashing rain, and all on a £1 a day food and drink budget – the Hike the Liners all felt pretty destroyed.
However, it’s true that time is a great healer. And although Hike the Line extremely tough, the fact that the first two years combined have resulted in raising over £8,000 for charity – we think the blisters will be worth it.

This year will, however, be the toughest yet. The concept is the same (hiking a long way carrying all food, clothes and sleeping bags – and all on a £1 a day food and drink budget) – but this year our route will take us from Ilkley to Windermere along the Dales Way. It will be beautiful but there will certainly be a few hills to contend with.

There will be eight of us Hiking the Line this August Bank Holiday – from 29 August to 1 September – which is the biggest number yet. We’re most nervous about day 3 – which is a mammoth 26 miles. We’ll each be burning around 4,500 calories on that day – with our intake around 2,500 calories, and it’s going to hurt! However, we’re determined that team Hike the Line will all make it from start to finish.

Half of all money raised will go to Ganet’s Adventure School Fund, with the majority of the remaining money raised going to the Fairtrade Foundation.

Ganet’s Adventure School is a small UK charity run 100% by volunteers, which means that over 90% of your donations go direct to supporting the education of the 250 children at Ganet’s Adventure School in Malawi.

The school receives no government funding, and relies on support from around the world to keep it running. It was founded by its director Gertrude Banda in 2004, and in 2011 won a Pan African Award for Entrepreneurship in Education.
