Hatching plans for the School Enterprise Competition

The school term may be over but work continues through the holiday. I am sure you remember when the school proudly accepted the Malawi prize for Entrepreneurship in Education  from the charity ‘Teach a Man to Fish’. This was in 2011.

The school’s director Gertrude has entered the school in the ‘Teach a Man to Fish’ School Enterprise Challenge. The learners, with support from Gertrude and another teacher, Mr Gondwe, have chosen to raise chickens in order to generate income for the school. The weekly guides that are sent to the school are very detailed with advice on the different stages of setting up a business and how the learning can be built into the curriculum.

There are some difficulties in accessing all the materials from Malawi because of intermittent internet access, so the trustees in the UK have had to print and post the materials instead. We’ll keep you posted on the progress of the project and the chickens!
