Our trustee Justina Forristal has worked with the school’s director Gertrude to complete a report to our current donors for the feeding programme, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and Yahoo/Oath. Here is a short extract from the report.
“Many students arrive at school following a long walk and without having eaten in the morning and so the provision of this meal by the school, increases concentration during the afternoon; overall health and attendance is also enhanced.
From April to July the programme was only able to run for 4 days per week, due to the poor harvest. On Fridays, the school used maize and bananas from the garden not porridge, but this still provided much needed nutrition for the pupils. Cooking pots used to prepare student meals had become very worn, some had visible holes in their base. Replacements were paid for by the Ganet’s Adventure School Fund. This level of usage shows just how much they are used and valued by the programme.”
