We have already shared with you the good news that Ganet’s Adventure School has met the guidelines to be awarded a Ministry of Education number. That happened in August when you helped us to fund the final school block.
Learners at primary schools in Malawi go through 8 Standards and at the end of their education at the school they take the Primary School Leaving Certificate. A pass in this exam qualifies learners to apply for a place at secondary school but does not guarantee a place.
The next challenge for the school was to get registration from MANEB, the schools’ examination board, to authorise the school to be able to register learners for this vital exam and for learners to be able to take the exam at their own school. In other years Gertrude has had to negotiate with other schools for learners to travel to those schools for the 3 days of the exams.
The good news is that Gertrude was able to make the final updates such as provision of safe storage of exam papers in a locked room and on November 4th MANEB approved Ganet’s Adventure School as an exam centre.
So we are cheering loudly; the school had a party to which the village chief and other community representatives came and Gertrude’s son in law toured the local area and put up posters to let everyone know. Enrollment for Standard 8 increased immediately.
