End of term school trip to Old Bandawe

Bandawe, Malawi

Teachers from the school suggested and organised an educational visit for a group of learners to Bandawe Mission at the end of term. The mission was founded in 1878 by Scottish missionaries who had moved up from Cape Maclear because of problems with malaria there.

The learners were very excited about the visit and had practised a selection of songs to perform there, including some written by the school’s director Gertrude.

More about Bandawe from Wikipedia:

The Livingstonia mission established a small station at Bandawe in Tonga country in 1878. In 1881 the mission moved to Bandawe to escape the bad climate of Cape Maclear and bouts of malaria that struck the mission. In 1894 the mission moved once again to Kondowe, again for health reasons. The former mission is a historical site, the ruins include a cemetery.

A full report coming from the learners is coming soon!
